Twisted bounded-dilation group C*-algebras as C*-metric algebras

We construct a class of C~*-metric algebras. We prove that for a discrete group Γ with a 2-cocycle σ,the closure of the seminorm ||[M?, ·]|| on Cc(Γ, σ) is a Leibniz Lip-norm on the twisted reduced group C~*-algebra C*r(Γ, σ) for the pointwise multiplication operator M?on ?2(Γ), induced by a proper length function ? on Γ with the property of bounded θ-dilation. Moreover, the compact quantum metric space structures depend only on the cohomology class of 2-cocycles in the Lipschitz isometric sense.

Reduction of fourth order ordinary differential equations to second and third order Lie linearizable forms

Meleshko presented a new method for reducing third order autonomous ordinary differential equations (ODEs) to Lie linearizable second order ODEs. We extended his work by reducing fourth order autonomous ODEs to second and third order linearizable ODEs and then applying the Ibragimov and Meleshko linearization test for the obtained ODEs. The application of the algorithm to several ODEs is also presented.     

3D photon counting imaging at 1550 nm with 1.5-GHz sine-wave-gated InGaAs/InP GAPD

We demonstrated a 3D laser imaging system at 1550 nm with a 1.5-GHz sine-wave gated Geiger-mode InGaAs/InP avalanche photodiode (APD). An optical fiber bundle with 100 individual fiber outputs was implemented at the focal plane of the telescope, providing a 2.5-mrad imaging view. The system used single-pixel near-infrared single-photon detector to measure photons at fiber outputs instead of a photon counting array. The 1.5-GHz gated Geiger-mode InGaAs/InP APD with a timing jitter of 290 ps was operated in quasi-continuous mode with detection efficiency of ∼4.3%. We achieved higher than 6-cm surface-to-surface resolution at single-photon level, showing a potential of low-energy and eye-safe laser imaging system for long-distance measurements.     

Selective Excitation with Asymmetric Adiabatic Pulses for NMR Spectroscopy

Existing selective pulses are mainly constructed in the forms of classically shaped pulses, such as the Gaussian pulses, or generated by using numerical optimization methods. However, all of these pulses are highly sensitive to radiofrequency (RF) intensity variation, which means their performance is highly dependent on the accuracy and stability of the RF intensity. Even a slight RF intensity deviation can cause severe degradation in the excitation profile. To solve this problem, we propose a method for narrow selective excitation by sequential application of a pair of phase‐opposite asymmetric adiabatic pulses, all within two scans. By retaining the adiabatic character, the new method is highly robust to RF intensity variation. Moreover, it has flexible excitation bandwidth, ranging from line‐selective to narrow‐band‐selective pulses. The method is tested both in numerical simulations and solution‐state NMR experiments.
